Bagrati Cathedral

Our tour starts by visiting Bagrati Cathedral, a masterpiece of medieval Georgian architecture. Evidently, it’s name derives from King Bagrati, who built the Cathedral in the early years of the 11th century. It must be remembered, that Bagrati was the first King in our history, who could unite the territory of Georgia and built the cathedral as a symbol of Unity of our country and Georgian people.

In 1692, Ottoman troops had invaded the Kingdom of Imereti, conquered the fortification and exploded Bagrati’s main structure. As a result, the explosion caused the cupola and ceiling to collapse. In order to preserve the historical monument (Starting from the 1950s), the Government gradually reconstructed the Cathedral to its present state, with controversial conservation works concluding in 2012.

Prometheus Cave

Following our schedule, the next stop of our Kutaisi tour is the mysterious Prometheus Cave. Prometheus Cave has its own guided tours. Departure time varies from season to season. Specifically, in high season (April-October) every 15-20 minutes, in a low season 40-50 minutes. So, you may need to plan accordingly.

Generally, there are 2 kinds of tickets available; main ticket for a walking tour – takes 1 hour, and optional ticket for a boat ride – takes 15 minutes. In fact, boats are not available after a rain as the water level rises. They announce about the start of the tour via loudspeakers (starting time is mentioned on your ticket). By the time a guide waits for visitors in the pavilion, where brief information about the cave is presented. And a one hour mystical journey begins…

After the Prometheus Cave, Glorious Sanatoriums of the  Soviet times are waiting for us (you may find Full information in our blog).

Nikoladze Family Winery

In the Afternoon, we head to Nikoladze Family Winery, the last stop on our Kutaisi Tours list. At the winery we observe traditional instruments for pressing, fermenting and aging the wine. The winemaker presents step by step technology for making, fermenting and aging the wine. Moreover, he shares with us legends and stories from Georgian folklore, highlighting the connection of  Georgian people with the Vine, representing Symbol of a life in our culture.
